What Happened to Catholicism: The Heresy Behind the Current Crisis

On May 2, 2026, the Holy Name Society of BVM Parish hosted an evening with Mr. Kennedy Hall, a Traditional Catholic Author and host of the popular podcast “Mere Tradition with Kennedy Hall.”
Mr. Hall spoke on the theme of his most recent bestselling book, What Happened to Catholicism: The Heresy Behind the Current Crisis (Manchester, 2025). In this book, and in the conference itself, Mr. Hall explained the heresy of Modernism, its philosophical origins, how those infiltrated theology, its main principles—evolution and vital immanence—and its condemnation in the momentous encyclical Pascendi Dominici Gregis by Pope St. Pius X. He points out that the solution to this crisis is to: study scholastic philosophy, reject the materialist spirit of the world, be vigilant and employ censorship, read good books, and find beauty in the world. In conclusion, the Immaculate Virgin is the “Destroyer of All Heresies,” so put everything into her hands.
The following day (May 3), Mr. Hall gave another conference on the Society of St. Pius X. He explained that they are the only group who has not compromised with Modernism; without Abp. Marcel Lefebvre the preservation of the Tridentine Mass would not have been possible; and that the consecrations that will take place on July 1 are necessary. He ended the conference with this image: while Christ was hanging on the Cross in agony only one bishop—St. John—stayed with Him; the Church is currently in her passion and only one bishop—Marcel Lefebvre—remained with her.
