The Mater Dei Saints once again faced their longstanding rivals from Canada, the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Templars (OLMC), in their annual tournament. As always, the weekend was filled with competition, school spirit, and enough bragging rights to last until the next tournament.
The weekend began with Flag Football, where the Saints, led by their captain Greg Bradley, took on the Templars and emerged victorious. The Saints started the tournament strong, putting the first points on the board for Mater Dei.
Next came the Trivia Competition, where the Saints accomplished something that had never been done before: a complete sweep of the top three positions! The three teams finishing at the top were:
1. Green Lobster
2. Templars — yes, our team!
3. Mr. Tucker’s Class
With all three spots belonging to Mater Dei teams, the Saints had certainly made their presence known.
The following day, the competition continued with Chess, Ping-Pong, Foot-sol, and Basketball.
The Chess competition proved to be a back-and-forth battle, with Mater Dei ultimately taking most of the tables. OLMC, however, was not about to let the Saints have everything. In Ping-Pong, the Templars swept every table, giving the Canadians a much-needed victory.
But the Saints quickly answered back.
In Foot-sol, Mater Dei defeated the Templars 13–9, officially securing the overall tournament victory for the Saints. With the competition now decided, the final event of the weekend was Basketball.
Unfortunately for the Saints, the Templars had the last laugh on the court, defeating Mater Dei 54–43.
But a single basketball game could not erase what had already been accomplished. With victories in Flag Football, Trivia, and Foot-sol, along with a strong showing in Chess, the Mater Dei Saints once again walked away as the overall champions.
Congratulations to the Saints, and congratulations to OLMC for another great tournament!
